Any school being
approached by groups with a suicide
prevention program should ask these 8 questions
1. Is the program evidence-based?
2. Does it fit within the key learning areas?
3. Has it been independently evaluated by reputable researchers?
If so, where's the research?
4. Does the program incorporate mental health issues, particularly
depression - and increase student's understanding of these issues?
5. Are the facts and statistics presented by the organisation on
their website or in any marketing materials accurate, eg: do they
use the latest statistics?
6. Do they talk about mental health as a critical factor and offer
stats on this?
7. Does the organisation encourage schools to incorporate their
program into a broader mental health/life skills context?
8. Does the organisation enquire about follow-up strategies for
students adversely affected by what they do
